Chitose Abe

Chitose Abe is the founder, sole owner and creative director of Sacai, a brand fêted for its multi-faceted designs that fuse complex sportswear and delicate draping with classical tailoring. Chitose trained under Rei Kawakubo, working for the esteemed matriarch of Japanese fashion as a pattern cutter, and then as a designer for Junya Watanabe before setting up her own company in 1998. Today Sacai has over 90 international stockists, a stand-alone store in Tokyo’s Aoyama district, has expanded to include the Sacai Luck and Sacai Man ranges, and stages one of Paris Fashion Week’s most enjoyable shows – expect big smiles, a shoulder-shaking soundtrack and some fabulous clothes.
