Diana Athill

Born in Norfolk in 1917, Diana Athill is undoubtedly one of the most respected figures in the publishing industry today. A literary editor at André Deutsch for over 50 years, she worked with authors such as Jean Rhys, Simone de Beauvoir and Philip Roth before reluctantly retiring at the age of 75 – but the best was yet to come. A few years later, in 2000, Diana released Stet, a professional memoir of her working life, that brought her great critical acclaim and new legion of fans. Several more titles followed in quick succession, and Diana now outsells the work of nearly every distinguished author she worked with in her previous role. She lives and works in Highgate, North London.
