the gentlewoman

Kirsty Young

The honeyed tones of Kirsty Young’s voice have been seducing audiences of both television and radio for close to three decades. Her broadcasting career began at BBC Radio Scotland in 1989, before she ventured down south to become anchorwoman for Channel 5’s news in London, where she became known for her signature desktop position and mellifluous delivery. More recently, Kirsty is best known as the inquisitive host of the venerable BBC Radio 4 programme Desert Island Discs, which she has presented since 2006. She lives in Oxfordshire with her husband, the entrepreneur Nick Jones, and their two children.
